Providing Cogent solutions
Sector Skills Councils
The Background: Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are the voice of employers in the skills debate. Their mission is to articulate the needs of business to providers of education and training. It is a critical role, central to the UK’s skills strategy.
The Challenge: As relatively new organisations set up in 2002, SSCs had to build capacity quickly in order to fulfil their role. Navigate’s Recruit Team worked extensively with the SSC for the oil and gas, chemical and nuclear industries – which accounts for a workforce of over 1 million people in the UK – to help the organisation build top level capacity.
The Solution: The Navigate team helped the SSC (known as “Cogent”) to assemble top level talent from the worlds of industry, commerce and further and higher education.
The Result: In 2006, Cogent won national bids to establish two new National Skills Academies – the only SSC to do so.
Testimonial: "We have worked with Navigate on a number of occasions and we have always succeeded in making an appointment. I am particularly impressed with their ability to quickly understand our needs and translate this into a compelling brief."
