Patrick Scott

Senior Associate

Patrick started his career as a teacher of English and drama, becoming Deputy Head of a comprehensive school in Durham and then Director of the Durham Sixth Form Centre, serving all the city’s 11 – 16 schools.

He moved into local authority work in 1986, with Cleveland LEA, eventually becoming a Senior Adviser with responsibility for Inspection and School Development and training as a Registered Inspector with Ofsted. When Cleveland disappeared in 1996 he joined one of the new unitary authorities (Redcar and Cleveland) as Deputy Director for School Improvement and Lifelong Learning.

Two years later was promoted to Director of Education, a post he held for three years before moving south to York as Director of Education and Leisure, a job which eventually turned into Director of Children’s Services in 2005. During his time at York the authority achieved Beacon status for ‘Early Intervention’ and for ‘School Improvement’, and was regularly judged to be ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
