Navigate magazine: Spring/Summer issue now available
In this issue, as the UK’s new coalition government takes office, we look ahead to the policy challenges facing the sector and examine Conservative and Liberal Democrat policies for education and children’s services to see what the future might hold for local authorities and schools.
We also take a look at the role of most senior leaders in the sector – Directors of Children’s Services – and ask why the turnover of rates of those in the top jobs has been so high.
We examine the work been done to provide support to the Directors to sustain them in their role – if the notion of “children’s services” director is still relevant in a new political landscape, that is. Our regular columnist, Sir Tim Brighouse, takes a look at the DCS role too on page 11. A seasoned campaigner himself, he knows what it’s like to face the heat of a high profile public service role or two – but it is good to see his enthusiasm is undimmed. If he was 20 years younger, he says, he would still be up for a role as a DCS. It says something about the mission and moral purpose of those leading services for children and young people.
To see the very same drive and motivation to widen opportunity to all, look no further than our back page and the profile of former DCS, Carol White, now a Senior Associate with Navigate.
