Navigate People: Stewart Edgell, worked with school leaders across a city to improve use of student tracking data in secondary schools. By developing a consistent approach via a “Pupil Tracker” system, Stewart was able to add value to school leaders’ decision-making about how valuable resources are deployed.
Stewart worked closely with three secondary schools in particular in 2009/10. All three schools saw significant increases in student achievement at GCSE in 2010.
Stewart said: “With the new KS4 Tracker in the majority of secondary schools, schools have been able to gather far more detailed data on performance in all subjects and for all students. The data has informed more detailed discussions on the brokerage and provision of appropriate support at an earlier stage in the school year. Individual schools have been able to estimate their CVA outcomes and to tailor their curriculum in a more strategic and inclusive way towards student needs, leading to significant improvement in a number of schools.”

One of the headteachers working closely with the project said: “Stewart provides school leaders with the data required for early intervention to be focused where it can make a real difference to pupil performance and a school’s progress.
